The children of Peter Lea Primary School made these pieces of work in the summer term of 2004. The infants created the large ceramic piece whose theme was the school and the community it serves. The school badge forms the centre of the artwork, the children cut the leaves for the tree out of clay, which were then glazed and incorporated into the central mosaic. The houses are quite imaginative some children depicting their homes as a tree house, other's as igloos, castles, pie houses and so on. The children from the nursery and reception made the people and faces that frame the whole piece.
The juniors made the mosaics; the world was our starting point. After a large group discussion we narrowed our field down to 6 countries. In groups of 120 we did exciting design work based on our chosen countries. The results are stunning and provide quite a talking point for the children. My favourite is the South American one, with its birds and jungle.
