This piece was commissioned by LATCH the Welsh Children's Cancer Charity. The theme of this piece was to reflect the work of the charity and act as a fundraiser. There had to be space in the design to include 500 names.
After talking to staff at the hospital, patients and parents I came up with a design based on a roller coaster ride. The whole piece is a visual metaphor for childhood cancer. The cart containing the child and family hurtling along outside of their control, the movement suggestive of the progression of the disease, with its highs, lows and setbacks. The structure in the piece communicates the vital support given to the families and children by the hospital staff and the charity LATCH. The names engraved on glass and mirror form part of the supporting structure.
